MVP Basketball Camp Scholarship Award Guidelines
MVP Basketball Camp offers scholarship awards to over 250 deserving boys and girls each year. These awards are given out both to children of low income families in need of economic assistance and to children with a family member serving in the armed forces through MVP's ?Hoops for Troops? program. "Basic awards" can provide either one full week at no charge or cover 1/2 the total price for multiple weeks of camp. "Stan Greene Memorial Scholarship Awards" are now available that can cover the total tuition for more than one week, but these are limited in number and will be competitive. Please read the guidelines and application instructions for both types of awards below.
Basic Awards
Basic scholarship awards cover one complete week of camp and are granted based on financial need, and upon consideration of a letter of recommendation from a teacher, coach, or counselor stating that the child is making an effort in school. In order to apply, a scholarship application needs to be filled out and sent along with the regular enrollment application to P.O. Box 655, Croton Falls, NY 10519 or faxed to (914) 380-6745. Hoops for Troops award candidates are not required to fill out the scholarship application. We simply need to know the name and title of the relative who currently or formerly served in the Armed Forces and the relationship of this relative to the prospective camper. A completed enrollment application must still be mailed or faxed to MVP. On the enrollment applications for basic awards, whether they are based on economic need or under the umbrella of MVP's Hoops For Troops program, we ask you to please check off the week that the child would like to attend. For returning scholarship recipients the parent may also choose to add one additional week at half price ($200 instead of $400).
Stanley Greene Memorial Scholarships
These special scholarships are made possible by generous donations from friends and family of Stanley D. Greene following his passing in December 2009. One boy and one girl each year will be selected for a first place award that will cover three weeks at no charge, and another boy and girl will receive second place awards that will cover two weeks each. In addition to the paperwork required for a basic award (see above), the Greene family is asking for a report card from school and a one to two page essay written by the applicant about either his or her leadership skills or his or her community service efforts. Both of these subject were dear to Stan. Executive Director Noel Muyskens, along with Stan's wife Gingie and his son Andy will review all applications received by June 1 each year and decide the winners. Strong candidates who are not selected will be given the opportunity to purchase additional weeks at half price. Please call Noel Muyskens for more details at (914) 946-1231.
